Connect Ghost
SiteSeed sends each article to your Ghost site as a post, with its cover image, tags, excerpt and meta description. It goes live or waits as a draft, as you choose in step 4. You need two things from a Ghost custom integration: its Admin API key and its API URL.
Before you start
- You can open Settings in Ghost Admin (an Administrator or the Owner).
- On Ghost(Pro), your plan is Publisher or higher. The Starter plan has no custom integrations. Self-hosted Ghost works as it is.
1. Add a custom integration in Ghost
- In Ghost Admin, open Settings, then Integrations.
- Add a custom integration and name it
SiteSeed. - Ghost shows its Admin API key and its API URL. Copy both. Copy the Admin API key, not the Content API key.
2. Connect it in SiteSeed
- In SiteSeed, open your site, then the Your website tab. Under How do we reach your site?, pick Ghost.
- Turn on Publish to Ghost.
- API URL: the API URL from the integration, like
https://your-site.ghost.io. On Ghost(Pro) it is your ghost.io address, not your custom domain. - Admin API key: the Admin API key. It looks like
id:secret: 24 characters, a colon, then 64 more. - Press Connect Ghost.
When you connect, SiteSeed checks the address and the key with Ghost. A wrong key is refused right away, not at the first article.
3. Test the connection
Press Test connection. SiteSeed reads your Ghost site and its posts with the saved key. It does not create or change any post. Green with Connected to your site’s name means it works.
The test always uses what is saved. If you changed a field, press Save Ghost connection first.
4. Choose what happens to new articles
Under the connection, When an article is written has three choices. You can change it at any time. It applies from the next article on.
- Publish every article (the default): Articles go live automatically as soon as they are written and fact-checked. No approval needed.
- Keep as a draft in SiteSeed: A new article goes live only when you read it and press Publish.
- Send as a draft to my website: The article lands in Ghost as a draft. Publish it there, or here.
Articles written before you connected the site stay as drafts in SiteSeed. When the site is connected and set to Publish every article, the Your website tab offers one button to publish them.
If it doesn't work
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| No Ghost site answered at that address. | Paste the API URL shown in the custom integration, like https://your-site.ghost.io. On Ghost(Pro), use the ghost.io address, not your custom domain. |
| Paste the Admin API key from a Ghost custom integration | The key does not have the right shape. Copy the Admin API key again (not the Content API key). |
| Ghost refused the Admin API key. | Copy the Admin API key from your custom integration again, and check the API URL is for the same site. |
| Enter your Ghost API URL starting with https:// | Add https:// to the start of the address. |
| … redirects to …. Use that address instead. | Your address sends visitors somewhere else. Enter the address it names. |
| … is not a public address SiteSeed can reach | SiteSeed can only reach a Ghost site that is on the public internet. |
Each article is sent to Ghost as one HTML card, so it looks exactly as SiteSeed wrote it, tables included. In the Ghost editor it shows as one block.
