Connect Webflow
SiteSeed adds each article as an item in your Webflow CMS blog collection. It goes live or waits as a draft, as you choose in step 4. You need one thing from Webflow: a site API token.
Before you start
- You are an admin of the Webflow site.
- The site has a CMS collection for blog posts, with a Rich text field for the article.
- Any field in that collection that is required, and that SiteSeed does not fill (such as an author or a category), is made optional in Webflow.
SiteSeed fills the name, the slug and the Rich text body. When your collection has fields for them, it also fills the summary, the cover images, the post date, the page title and the meta description. It finds those fields by their names.
1. Make a site API token in Webflow
- In Webflow, open Site settings, then Apps & integrations, and scroll to API access.
- Generate an API token. Give it read and write access to CMS and read access to Sites. SiteSeed needs nothing else.
- Copy the token.
2. Connect it in SiteSeed
- In SiteSeed, open your site, then the Your website tab. Under How do we reach your site?, pick Webflow.
- Turn on Publish to Webflow.
- Site API token: paste the token.
- Site ID (optional): leave it blank. A site token belongs to one site.
- Blog collection (optional): leave it blank, unless your site has several collections that look like a blog. Then enter the slug or ID of the one for articles, like
blog-posts. - Press Connect Webflow.
When you connect, SiteSeed checks the token with Webflow, finds your blog collection and its fields, and tells you which collection it will publish to. A wrong token is refused right away, not at the first article.
3. Test the connection
Press Test connection. SiteSeed reads your site and the collection with the saved token. It does not create or change any item. Green with the site and collection names means it works.
The test always uses what is saved. If you changed a field, press Save Webflow connection first.
4. Choose what happens to new articles
Under the connection, When an article is written has three choices. You can change it at any time. It applies from the next article on.
- Publish every article (the default): Articles go live automatically as soon as they are written and fact-checked. No approval needed.
- Keep as a draft in SiteSeed: A new article goes live only when you read it and press Publish.
- Send as a draft to my website: The article lands in Webflow as a draft. Publish it there, or here.
Articles written before you connected the site stay as drafts in SiteSeed. When the site is connected and set to Publish every article, the Your website tab offers one button to publish them.
